It is an honor for our surgical service to have participated as an international speaker at the «New Trends and Actual Standards in Coloproctology» conference held in Salerno, Italy. This prestigious event brought together several international leaders in colorectal surgery, providing a platform to share and discuss the latest advancements and best practices in our specialty.
During the conference, a presentation was made on the current management of ileocecal Crohn’s disease, with a particular focus on the role of early surgery—an area that has been central to the research of our team and the doctoral thesis of the presenting surgeon. What made this experience especially meaningful was the opportunity to discuss this important topic with one of the pioneers of colorectal surgery, Dr. John Nichols from St. Mark’s Hospital in the UK. Engaging in dialogue with someone who has played a key role in shaping the foundation of our field was both inspiring and enriching.
As an Argentine colorectal surgery team, attending international meetings like this is of great importance. These events offer a unique opportunity to connect with global experts, exchange ideas, and stay at the forefront of advancements in the field. For surgeons from Latin America, participating in these conferences helps bridge knowledge and practice gaps, ensuring that innovative techniques and insights can be brought back to improve patient care in our region.
This experience reaffirms our service’s commitment to fostering collaboration and promoting excellence in the management of inflammatory bowel disease and other colorectal conditions. We are deeply grateful for the opportunity to represent Argentina on this global stage and contribute to the ongoing evolution of our specialty.
